2027 Court Dismisses Political Party Registration Claim

KOKO Business | People, Ideas, Markets, Growth | 2027 Court Dismisses Political Party Registration Claim

In 2027, a court dismissed a legal attempt to register a new political party, ruling that the claim lacked sufficient merit. The suit, filed by Chief Mrs Chinasa Nwekeke, was brought on behalf of the Wisdom Party, which sought official recognition from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Justice James Omotosho, presiding over the case, determined that the plaintiff’s request had become academic. The court noted that INEC had not raised any objections to the party’s name, symbol, or logo after the 90-day period specified in the letter of intent.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported the case, highlighting that the plaintiff had filed the suit as the pro tem National Chairman of the Wisdom Party. The ruling underscores the legal hurdles faced by political associations seeking formal registration.
