Nigeria Labour Congress Issues Ultimatum to Federal Government

The Nigerian Labour Congress has issued a formal two-week ultimatum to the federal government regarding critical economic issues, specifically targeting petrol prices and the national minimum wage. This directive comes after a joint meeting between the National Executive Council and the Central Working Committee, where Mr. Ajaero outlined the government's response to the nation's current economic challenges. The meeting highlighted existential threats facing workers and the masses, emphasizing that the government must act immediately to address these issues. The ultimatum is contained in a communiqué signed by NLC president Joe Ajaero following the joint session in Abuja. The government is expected to take measures to reduce petrol prices across the nation and commence the process of renegotiating a new national minimum wage within the specified timeframe. Failure of which the NLC will be compelled to take remedial steps as would be directed by the relevant organs. Mr. Ajaero emphasized that the current national minimum wage had been eroded by the depreciation of the naira and rising cost of living, leaving workers unable to afford basic necessities. The government must act now to
