AU Focuses on Global Financial Reform

The African Union (AU) is preparing to host a major international monetary fund-world bank meeting in Bangkok, Thailand, from October 12-18, 2026, centered on global financial reforms and debt relief for the continent.
The meeting’s primary objective is to facilitate discussions on Africa’s priorities, including international tax cooperation, financial integration, and debt resolution. The AU intends to host four side events, including discussions on international tax cooperation, operationalising AU financial institutions, and instant cross-border payments, to bolster Africa’s financial capacity.
Specifically, the AU will focus on debt resolution, addressing African countries’ challenges with managing debt obligations while pursuing sustainable infrastructure and public services. The meeting also aims to advance discussions on international tax cooperation, a crucial element for strengthening African economies and participation in global tax rules.
