Oyo State’s economic expansion initiatives faced significant setbacks as the state government reported delayed access to ₦250 billion in NLNG dividends. Governor Makinde stated the funds were withheld until after the 2027 general elections, disrupting planned infrastructure projects.

Makinde emphasized that the delay had forced states to pause critical infrastructure development, directly impacting Oyo State’s economic growth targets. He noted the funds were intended for projects identified to expand the state’s economy and improve infrastructure.

The remarks were made during the 2027 budget stakeholders’ consultative engagement in Ibadan, Oyo State’s capital. Governor Makinde expressed regret that the state’s entitlement to ₦250 billion from NLNG dividends had been delayed until post-election.
