Atiku Questions NNPC Discount’s Legitimacy and Reach

KOKO Business | People, Ideas, Markets, Growth | Atiku Questions NNPC Discount’s Legitimacy and Reach

Atiku raised concerns that the discount policy might indicate the administration is providing political goodwill rather than genuine relief, emphasizing unclear financial implications. The former vice president argued that NNPC Limited, a commercial entity under the Petroleum Industry Act, should not serve as a funding source for presidential campaigns.

Phrank Shaibu, ADC Presidential Campaign Council’s strategic communication director, noted Atiku questioned whether NNPC’s board approved the discount arrangement prior to the Presidency’s announcement. The former vice president also highlighted the limited retail network of NNPC Retail, with just over 900 stations across Nigeria’s 242 million population.

Atiku criticized the discount’s potential for political credit without transparency, stating Tinubu seeks public approval before addressing the financial accountability of the discount. He stressed the need for board approval, cost details, and the account responsible for the discount’s implementation.
