KOKO Business: Power Outage Linked to Pipeline Shutdown

This action followed the Escravos pipeline shutdown, which disrupted gas supply to thermal plants.

The blackout affected several major power stations, including Egbin 1,320MW; Olorunsogo NIPP 676MW; Olorunsogo 338MW; Omotosho NIPP 450MW; Omotosho 338MW; and Paras 60MW.

Most Nigerian power generation relies on thermal plants that require gas, which is produced by oil and gas companies under the Ministry of Petroleum Resources.

NGPTC, a subsidiary of NNPC, owns and operates the pipelines delivering this gas to power stations.
