NERC Proposes Meter Repayment Plan for Customers

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) introduced a regulation allowing electricity customers to repay self-financed meter acquisitions via energy credits over five years.
Under the draft 2017 meter asset providers regulations, distribution companies must source 40 percent of their meter needs from licensed local manufacturers.
Customers receive authorization from distribution licensees specifying the meter installation cost after premises inspection, followed by payment to meter asset providers.
Meter asset providers must install meters within 21 working days after payment and distribute ownership to distribution companies, with repayment terms capped at five years.
