Senate Rejects Executive Claim on Oil Payment Delays

The Senate has rejected the Chief of Staff to the President, Abba Kyari's assertion that the National Assembly caused delays in federal debt payments to oil marketers. The upper chamber stated there is no pending Executive request for a loan to cover these obligations.
Senate Spokesperson Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi questioned why the Executive would avoid collaboration with the Legislature to address fuel scarcity, noting no specific loan request exists for oil marketers.
The Senate highlighted that subsidy cancellation by the current administration created confusion about which payments are being referenced, urging the Chief of Staff to clarify or retract his claim.
A similar claim by the Minister of Finance regarding foreign loans occurred when the Presidency failed to submit the necessary request, indicating potential inconsistencies in the Executive's communication.
