KOKO Business: Opera Launches East African Hub to Boost Digital Access

Opera’s Ndichu emphasized the company’s long-standing commitment to affordable internet access for all, highlighting his new role and the opening of a Kenyan office as East Africa’s regional hub.

The company aims to train 100 Africans in web development over three years to advance its AI-powered smartphone content delivery solutions for the region.

Opera plans to allocate $100 million within two years to accelerate Africa’s digital economy growth through strategic investments and infrastructure.

Opera’s Ndichu stated the company has long focused on providing fast and affordable internet access globally, with his recent appointment and the Kenyan office launch establishing East Africa as a regional hub.

The firm intends to train 100 African professionals in web development within three years to enhance its AI-driven smartphone content delivery systems across the region.

Opera will commit approximately $100 million over two years to expand Africa’s digital economy through targeted investments and infrastructure development initiatives.

This strategy follows Opera’s 2017 acquisition of Paycom PiDO, a Nigerian payment platform, which positioned the company for deeper engagement in African financial services.
