UK Journalist Urges Aid Cuts to Nigeria Amid Corruption Concerns

British journalist Lowri Turner has urged the UK government to reduce foreign aid to Nigeria, arguing that the funds are mismanaged and contribute to corruption. In a viral video on Channel 5, she highlighted the lack of accountability in Nigeria’s aid system, stating that British citizens face severe domestic challenges such as unaffordable energy bills and food costs.
Nigeria’s high concentration of wealth and systemic corruption undermine the need for foreign aid, according to Turner. She noted that the country has eight and a half thousand millionaires and loses approximately $15 billion annually to corruption, suggesting that aid money fuels these issues rather than addressing poverty.
