Nigeria’s Reserves Near $40 Billion as CBN Projects

KOKO Business: Nigeria's Reserves Near $40 Billion as CBN Projects

Nigeria’s external reserves reached $39.07 billion on January 4, 2018, close to the $40 billion target Godwin Emefiele, CBN governor, forecast for late 2018.

Emefiele attributed the increase to higher foreign exchange inflows and the CBN’s effective forex demand management strategy, which analysts linked to rising oil production.

A $40 billion reserve level would cover eight months of import payments, strengthening the CBN’s ability to control the foreign exchange market and reduce inflationary pressures.

Nigeria’s external reserves stood at $39.07 billion as of January 4, 2018, nearing the $40 billion projection Godwin Emefiele, Central Bank of Nigeria governor, anticipated by year-end 2018.

A $40 billion reserve level would support eight months of import financing, enhancing the CBN’s capacity to stabilize the foreign exchange market and mitigate inflationary impacts.
