KOKO Business: Lagos Power Restoration Progress Reported by Minister

Babatunde Fashola, Nigeria's Power, Works and Housing Minister, stated that the widespread darkness affecting Lagos has ended following the Escravos pipeline fire incident. The incident shut down 14 power plants, but Fashola confirmed the worst phase is over.

At a recent power sector meeting in Lafia, Fashola emphasized that all stakeholders, including generation companies and distribution utilities, will restore power to pre-incident levels through coordinated efforts.

Fashola noted a significant increase in Nigeria's power generation capacity from 3,000 MW in May 2015 to 7,000 MW by 2017, alongside transmission capacity growth from 5,000 MW to 6,900 MW during the same period.

Stakeholders reported reduced diesel and petrol consumption for generators, indicating gradual improvements in power usage patterns after the incident.
