Budget Challenges Under APC Government

KOKO Business: Budget Challenges Under APC Government

The 2015 election saw Nigerians enthusiastically support the process that ousted President Goodluck Jonathan's Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP). Many colleagues, friends, and family members aligned with the political shift.

President Buhari's administration has faced criticism over budget execution, with some arguing the government's handling of fiscal matters has been problematic.

Budget disputes under the APC government stem from self-inflicted issues, particularly the recurring challenges in fiscal management.

During the PDP era, budget disagreements centered on oil prices, production levels, and constituency project allocations.

Despite technical support from development partners, APC budgets have generated significant controversy rather than positive outcomes.

The 2016 budget was contentious, while the 2017 budget may be remembered as poorly implemented, and the 2018 budget could trigger executive-legislative conflict.

Internal conflicts within the Ministry of Budget and National Planning (MBNP) and the struggle for control of the Budget Office of the Federation (BOF) hinder budget processes.

President Buhari's initial directive merged the National Planning Commission and BOF to create the MBNP, aiming to streamline budget management.
