NNPC Completes Escravos Pipeline Repair After Critical Shutdown

KOKO Business: NNPC Completes Escravos Pipeline Repair After Critical Shutdown

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) finalized repairs to the Escravos pipeline system today, resolving a critical disruption that forced multiple power stations offline. This action follows the pipeline shutdown that impacted national electricity generation.

The Escravos–Lagos Pipeline System (ELPS), constructed in 1989, transports natural gas from the Niger Delta to Egbin power station in Lagos. This pipeline is managed by the Nigerian Gas Company (NGC), a subsidiary of NNPC.

The gas supply chain for power generation relies on pipelines operated by Nigerian Gas Processing and Transportation Company Ltd (NGPTC), a NNPC subsidiary. NGPTC delivers natural gas to power stations through this infrastructure.

The pipeline shutdown previously caused several power stations across Nigeria to cease operations, highlighting the system's critical role in the country's energy sector.
