WPP Scangroup Begins Nigerian Advertising Venture After Legal Resolution

WPP Scangroup, through its subsidiary Ogilvy & Mather Africa BV, has initiated a joint venture in Nigeria following a court-ordered settlement with Prima Garnet Communications. The resolution, finalized by the Lagos High Court on December 15, cleared the path for the company’s market entry after a five-year legal dispute.
Bharat Thakrar, CEO of WPP Scangroup, described the settlement as mutually beneficial, enabling renewed investment in Nigeria’s advertising sector. He emphasized the country’s strategic importance for WPP’s Pan African expansion.
The legal conflict originated from Prima Garnet Communications’ 2013 lawsuit, alleging Scangroup orchestrated a business denial plan. The dispute was resolved within two weeks of the court’s directive to execute terms.
WPP Scangroup Limited, previously known as Scangroup Limited, operates in marketing communications and now aims to strengthen its presence in Nigeria after resolving the long-standing dispute.
