Nigeria launched the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for Government Security and Intelligence Agencies and Other Stakeholders under the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry-Wide Security Architecture on 12 October 2026. This framework establishes a common approach to protect hydrocarbon assets through coordinated efforts involving defense, intelligence, law enforcement, and industry stakeholders.

The Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Ahmed Audi, confirmed the corps’ role in safeguarding oil and gas assets. This initiative addresses threats including crude oil theft, pipeline vandalism, and illegal refining, which the National Security Council previously identified as undermining production, environmental integrity, and national security.

National crude oil and condensate production fell to 950,000 barrels per day in August 2022, with unavailable trunklines and significant discrepancies between injected volumes and terminal receipts.
