FaydaVerse, Ethiopia’s national digital ID institution, has started charging banks and other organizations for digital identity verification services. The move marks a new phase in the institution's operations, as it seeks to fund its digital infrastructure.

The fees for authentication services, which began in August 2026, range from five to 10 cents, according to Saminas Seifu, FaydaVerse’s Stakeholder Engagement Director. These charges are intended to support the maintenance and development of the digital infrastructure.

FaydaVerse emphasized that the charges are essential for sustaining its operations and combating fraud. The institution has stated there are no immediate plans to revise the fees, which are part of its ongoing strategy to ensure the reliability of its services.
