Kenyan EV Firm Seeks Tax Breaks for Farm Transport

KOKO Business | People, Ideas, Markets, Growth | Kenyan EV Firm Seeks Tax Breaks for Farm Transport

Teketeke E-Mobility, a Kenyan electric mobility company, is requesting tax exemptions for locally made electric motorcycles and three-wheelers used in agriculture. The firm argues that reducing transport costs could enhance farmers' profits.

Managing Director Richard Chesebeh stated that electric motorcycles could cut daily milk transportation costs from Sh1,000 to approximately Sh200, though these figures were not independently confirmed. The company also converts petrol motorcycles to electric, providing an alternative for existing vehicle owners.

The firm assembles electric motorcycles, cargo tricycles, and lithium-ion batteries, targeting farmers who transport agricultural products to markets and processing centers. Chesebeh urged the government to offer tax incentives for locally assembled electric agricultural equipment, similar to those for other farm machinery.
