Nigeria’s DisCos Revenue Surpasses N1.2trn Amid Power Supply Challenges

Nigeria's electricity distribution companies (DisCos) have recorded revenue exceeding N1.2 trillion in the first half of 2026, according to recent data. This marks a significant increase from N218.16 billion in the same period in 2018, reflecting a 450 per cent growth over eight years.
Annual revenue for DisCos has surged by about 666 per cent over ten years, rising from N302.93 billion in 2016 to N2.32 trillion in 2025. This stark contrast highlights the disparity between revenue growth and the modest improvements in electricity supply.
Despite the revenue increase, power supply has not kept pace, with average daily generation rising by 36 per cent from 3,276MW in 2016 to 4,475MW in 2025.
