Sahara Group Urges Energy Journalists to Deepen Reporting

Sahara Group has called on energy journalists to provide comprehensive coverage of the sector by explaining the infrastructure, policies, and market forces that influence it.

Michael Creg Afful, Executive Director of Energy News Africa Ltd., emphasized the need for journalists to scrutinize the context and sources behind energy statistics. He stated that a number only holds significance when it is accompanied by a clear date, unit, source, and context.

Afful also urged reporters to differentiate between operators, partners, and service companies, as well as to understand the roles of upstream, midstream, and downstream regulators. He highlighted the importance of verifying technical claims before publication to ensure credibility.
