Authorities in Osun and Oyo states have issued a warning to residents against attempting to collect fuel from overturned or accidented tankers. The Assistant Inspector-General of Police, AIG Bassey Ewah, emphasized the dangers associated with such actions during a press release issued on Monday.

The warning followed a tanker fire incident at the Feesu area along the Iwo–Osogbo Express Road on September 17, 2026. The Divisional Police Officer, Iwo Division, mobilized police personnel to the scene after receiving information about the fire.

Ewah highlighted the life-threatening risks of approaching accidented tankers, including fires, explosions, severe injuries, and fatalities. He also referenced a similar tragic incident in Benin City, Edo State, to reinforce the dangers of attempting to scoop spilled petroleum products.
