At a symposium in Ogba, Lagos, participants urged the state government to focus on public investment and enhance the Lagos Water Corporation (LWC). They also emphasized the need for community and worker involvement in water-related decisions.

The October 16, 2026, symposium, titled 'No Illusions: Prepaid Water Meters and Water Privatisation Are Failed Models for Lagos, Nigeria,' was organized by the Corporate Accountability and Public Participation Africa (CAPPA) and the Our Water Our Right Africa Coalition during the Africa Week of Action Against Water Privatisation.

Speakers highlighted that water sector reforms should be evaluated based on both the investment they attract and their impact on access, affordability, public accountability, and workers’ welfare.

Organized labour expressed concerns about potential retrenchment, casualisation, and the loss of pension benefits.

Residents are worried about whether water will become more expensive without improvements in availability and reliability.
