KOKO Business | People, Ideas, Markets, Growth | NUPRC Advances Upstream Oil Regulation Framework

The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) is advancing its regulatory framework for the oil and gas sector, with 10 new upstream regulations currently under development. These measures aim to enhance compliance and ensure adherence to statutory obligations across the petroleum value chain.

According to Mrs. Emmanuella Senlong, a senior regulatory officer at NUPRC, the commission has already gazetted 19 sector-specific regulations and issued 25 operational guidelines to support industry operations.

The NUPRC’s efforts are part of Nigeria’s implementation of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA), which established a new regulatory framework for the petroleum sector. The commission is focused on translating legal provisions into effective industry practices through clear regulations and consistent enforcement.
