Putin Promises Africa Grain and Investment Amid Western Criticism

Russian President Vladimir Putin has engaged with 22 African leaders at the third Russia-Africa Summit in Moscow, offering grain and investment opportunities while criticizing Western nations. The summit, held at the Gostiny Dvor conference centre, marked a strategic move to expand Moscow’s economic influence in Africa.
During his speech, Putin emphasized Russia’s role as a more equitable partner for Africa compared to Western countries. He highlighted Russia’s contributions, stating that the nation supplied 13 million tonnes of agricultural products to Africa during the first nine months of 2026.
Putin’s outreach to African leaders includes promises of technology and infrastructure partnerships, positioning Russia as an alternative to Western economic engagement. The initiative reflects broader efforts to counter perceived Western exploitation of African resources.
