Alibaba’s RISC-V Chips Reach 6 Billion Shipped Milestone

Alibaba's XuanTie RISC-V architecture has enabled the shipment of over 6 billion chips, according to Meng Jianyi, chief scientist at Damo Academy. The milestone was announced at the annual RISC-V Summit China in Shenzhen.
The achievement highlights Alibaba's expansion in AI and automotive systems, as the company continues to invest in open-standard chip technologies. This move aligns with broader efforts by Chinese firms to reduce reliance on foreign chip architectures.
Chinese chipmakers are increasingly focusing on the RISC-V ecosystem as an alternative to established architectures like those from Intel and Arm. This shift is driven by US-led export restrictions and a desire for greater technological independence.
