Amnesty Demands Release of Journalist Jailed Over Police Comments

Amnesty International has called for the immediate release of 23-year-old journalist Farida Isiak, who was sentenced to four years in prison or a fine of N1.75 million for a Facebook post criticizing the police in Kaduna State.
The human rights organization stated that Isiak's arrest and punishment were clearly due to her attempt to expose police abuses. It condemned the sentencing of a journalist to four years in prison after a sham trial as a travesty of justice.
Isiak, a reporter with Nagarta Radio in Kaduna, was reportedly arrested around 10pm on October 20 by officers under the command of Divisional Police Officer Usman Adamu of Mararaban Jos.
