Atiku Accuses NNPC of Political Tool Use

KOKO Business | People, Ideas, Markets, Growth | Atiku Accuses NNPC of Political Tool Use

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has alleged that President Bola Tinubu’s administration is misusing the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) as a political instrument. He demands transparency and corporate approval for the 30-day petrol discount scheme implemented by the government.

Atiku, through the African Democratic Congress (ADC) Presidential Campaign Council’s strategic communications director, questioned whether NNPC operates independently or serves political purposes. He highlighted concerns about corporate governance and transparency under the Petroleum Industry Act.

The former vice-president criticized the administration for selectively applying market principles, claiming officials justify high petrol prices through market forces while intervening politically when convenient. He noted that when Nigerians seek affordable fuel, officials deliver lectures on market forces instead.
