Atiku Challenges Tinubu Over Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway Financial Transparency

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has demanded President Bola Tinubu clarify changes to the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway project, specifically requesting detailed accounts of contract payments and an explanation for an alleged $20 billion loan intended for project costs.

Atiku alleged that rerouting sections of the highway has raised questions about the original contract, revised design costs, and whether Nigerians are being asked to shoulder additional debt without full knowledge of prior payments or remaining obligations.

In a statement, Atiku accused the Tinubu administration of altering the project’s direction without providing Nigerians with a full account of financial implications. He called on Works Minister David Umahi to publish original engineering studies and revised designs, questioning whether the government adequately assessed terrain, bridges, and flood risks before awarding the contract.
