Bianki’s Book Analyzes Nigeria’s Electoral Dynamics

Dr Valentin Bianki, a political psychologist and campaign strategist, has released the English edition of his book, Politics in Nigeria: Elites and Voters. The publication provides insights into electoral competition, voter behaviour, and political power dynamics ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The book was launched at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja, where political analysts, journalists, and stakeholders reviewed its findings and their implications for Nigeria’s democratic development.
Bianki’s research is based on electoral data and original studies, examining the 2023 general elections, political mobilisation, regional representation, digital campaigning, and the link between election results and the distribution of political appointments and federal resources.
Bianki stated that Nigeria’s democratic progress should not be measured solely by international democracy rankings, highlighting the country’s ongoing competitive elections, unpredictable outcomes, and challenges to political interests.
He characterised the 2023 presidential election as the most open contest since Nigeria’s return to civilian rule in 1999, with four major candidates receiving significant support across various regions.
According to the research, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu secured victory with 36.6 per cent of the votes, marking the lowest winning vote share in a Nigerian presidential election since 1999.
