Chief Gabe Onah, chairman of Carnival Calabar, highlighted the need for private capital to enhance the festival's economic impact. During a dry run of the 2026 event, he emphasized the importance of private-sector involvement in creating a sustainable carnival economy.

The 2025 Carnival Calabar reportedly generated ₦19 billion in economic activity, according to Onah. This figure underscores the festival's potential, yet he pointed out that private investment remains underutilized in maximizing its economic benefits.

Onah called for greater participation from businesses to commercialize the festival effectively. His remarks were made during the first dry run of the 2026 Carnival Calabar at Mary Slessor Roundabout, Cross River State.
