Chongqing’s Retail Expansion and Economic Growth

Chongqing's retail sector has expanded significantly, with the city's consumer power growing rapidly. In 2025, total retail sales of consumer goods reached RMB 1.67 trillion, ranking first among Chinese cities. The city also welcomed more than 500 million visitors annually.

Renovated air-raid shelters now function as "Mountain City Cave Havens," featuring bars, restaurants, and immersive performances. Cave hotpot restaurants, one of which seats over 1,300 diners at a constant 25°C, have become popular attractions.

Chongqing's manufacturing base includes new-energy vehicles, motorcycles, and laptops, supporting the retail market. The city has maintained a top position in China's night-economy rankings for four consecutive years.
