Egyptian Finance Ministry Highlights Debt Reduction Pace Amid Credit Rating Upgrade

The Egyptian finance ministry stated that accelerating efforts to reduce high debt service costs will be central to upcoming structural reforms after Moody’s upgraded Egypt’s credit rating to 'B3' with a positive outlook. The ministry attributed the improved rating to economic and fiscal reforms that stabilized public finances and boosted economic activity.
Moody’s positive outlook indicates expectations for stronger economic growth through sustained fiscal discipline, production support, and export initiatives, while government debt levels decreased to 81.9% of GDP in June 2026 and net international reserves reached $57 billion by September 2026.
The ministry emphasized that balanced fiscal policies and ongoing reforms aim to preserve financial stability while generating fiscal space for increased investment in health, education, and social protection programs.
