Enugu State Government Reports Alleged Opposition Plot to Import Armed Elements Ahead of 2027 Elections

The Enugu State Government claims it has identified alleged plans by opposition groups to introduce armed individuals and bandits into the state to generate fear and a false perception of insecurity before the 2027 general elections. This information was disclosed by Gov Peter Mbah during a press conference at Government House, Enugu, on Sunday.

Chidiebere Onyia, a representative of the Enugu State Government, stated that the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) was involved in incidents at Akanu Ibiam International Airport and the party’s state secretariat in Enugu on Saturday. These events prompted Enugu police to arrest 182 suspects and rescue 31 kidnapped individuals.

The Enugu State Government has also noted that opposition parties are requesting an investigation into political violence, while the All Progressives Congress (APC) has demanded a formal apology from the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) regarding the airport and secretariat incidents.
