Escravos-Lagos Pipeline Restored After Fire Incident

KOKO Business: Escravos-Lagos Pipeline Restored After Fire Incident

The Escravos-Lagos Pipeline (ELP) was restored following a recent fire incident that disrupted gas supply to customers in Ondo, Ogun, and Lagos States. Power plants in these regions, including Egbin, Olorunshogo, Paras, and Omotosho facilities, resumed operations after the pipeline repair.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) reported the pipeline restoration after directives from Group Managing Director Maikanti Baru to assess damage and implement repairs. This action followed the incident that caused shutdowns of multiple power plants.

The 36-inch Escravos to Lagos Pipeline System (ELPS), operational since 1989, supplies natural gas to power plants across the South-west and connects to the West African Gas Pipeline System.

The restoration enabled the resumption of power generation for power plants with a combined capacity of 1,143MW, addressing the outage that impacted electricity supply in the affected states.
