Federal Government Clarifies 30-Day Petrol Price Reduction Rationale

The federal government provided insights into the 30-day petrol price reduction decision implemented by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.), stating it was primarily driven by the NNPCL as part of the nation’s 66th independence anniversary. This measure was intended to offer temporary relief amid elevated international energy costs without reversing fuel subsidy removal.
Minister of Information and National Orientation Mohammed Idris outlined that the NNPC had chosen to forgo part of its profits to mitigate the impact of rising petrol prices on consumers during his Abuja media engagement. He also expressed confidence that dialogue between the federal government and organised labour would address cost-of-living pressures and labour disputes.
