FIRS Leader Honored in Global Tax 50

Babatunde Fowler, Executive Chairman of Nigeria's Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), was recognized by International Tax Review as one of the world’s 50 most influential tax personalities in its 2017 Global Tax 50 ranking.
The International Tax Review’s seventh annual ranking highlights key tax institutions, individuals, and trends shaping the global tax landscape.
Fowler led FIRS to collect N3.3 trillion in tax revenue during 2016, a significant achievement noted by the publication.
The publication credited Fowler’s success to public education initiatives and technology integration within Nigeria’s tax system.
FIRS received an award for innovation from the African Tax Administration Forum for its e-Stamp Duty portal, a web-based tool for stamp duty calculations.
Fowler also became the first Vice Chairman of the UN Committee on International Cooperation in Tax Matters in 2017, serving a four-year term.
