Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi, former Rivers State Governor and African Democratic Congress (ADC) vice-presidential candidate, alleged Senate President Godswill Akpabio seized Cross River State oil wells during his Akwa Ibom State governance. Amaechi made the claims at a Calabar town hall meeting ahead of the 2027 general elections. He stated Akpabio knows the actions occurred despite being in the APC.

Amaechi urged Cross River State residents to demand formal explanations from Akpabio regarding disputed maritime oil assets transferred to Akwa Ibom State. He noted Akpabio previously attempted to claim Rivers State oil wells but was defeated in court during his gubernatorial term.
