Fuel Retailers Say Relief Offers Little Ease

Fuel retailers in South Africa have expressed concerns that the government's R10 billion relief package will provide limited assistance amid rising fuel prices. The Fuel Retailers Association stated that the measure will cushion consumers but offer little relief to retailers.

The relief package includes a reduction in fuel prices, with petrol prices set to decrease by R1.50 per litre and diesel by R3 starting from November 4. This reduction will gradually decrease to R1 for petrol and R1.50 for diesel from December 2.

Association representative Henry van der Merwe warned that fuel prices could still rise sharply in November, citing global uncertainties such as tensions around the Strait of Hormuz affecting oil markets.
