German Chancellor Friedrich Merz stated that the recent U.S.-Russia diesel export agreement is 'out of the question' for Germany and Europe. He emphasized adherence to sanctions against Russia and pledged ongoing support for Ukraine during a Berlin news conference. Merz also assured Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky of continued German and European backing.

Russian President Vladimir Putin conversed with U.S. President Donald Trump on Friday, following which Trump announced an agreement for Russia to supply diesel to the United States and global markets. The Russian government subsequently eased diesel export restrictions on Saturday, though Germany and Europe maintain opposition to the deal.
