Ghanaian Actor Criticizes Fairness of Nollywood Comparison

Veteran Ghanaian actor Majid Michel has argued that comparing Ghana's movie industry to Nigeria's Nollywood is unfair. Michel, speaking in an interview with Y1079 FM Accra, emphasized that Nigeria's larger population and greater number of filmmakers make the comparison illogical.
Michel described the comparison as "stupid," stating that Nigeria's industry naturally has more actors and filmmakers due to its larger size. He also noted that Ghana's population is less than 40 million, further supporting his argument against the comparison.
The actor highlighted that Nigeria's movie industry benefits from a bigger talent pool, making it more likely to have superior filmmakers and actors. This perspective underscores the challenges faced by Ghana's film sector in competing with Nigeria's established industry.
