ICC Recognizes Nigeria Cricket Progress, Requests Additional Investment

The International Cricket Council (ICC) acknowledged the Nigeria Cricket Federation’s (NCF) facility enhancements in Abuja ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Africa Sub-Regional Qualifier C. ICC Regional Manager Justin Ligyalingi confirmed the venues were ready for the tournament starting October 20 after inspecting improvements made since a prior assessment four months ago.
Ligyalingi stated further investment remains critical to sustain cricket’s development in Nigeria, emphasizing the NCF’s progress while noting the need for additional resources to maintain the sport’s growth trajectory. The assessment followed an inspection of facilities prepared for the competition.
The ICC’s recognition highlights the NCF’s efforts to meet international standards for the qualifier, though ongoing financial and infrastructure needs must be addressed to ensure long-term cricket advancement in the country. The tournament begins October 20 with the NCF having made significant strides since the last review.
