IMF Warns Global Economy Faces Resilience Test Amid Oil Stock Declines

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) cautioned that the global economy may soon encounter a severe test to its resilience. This warning follows its World Economic Outlook report released on Tuesday, which highlighted that the economy has weathered the Middle East conflict’s fallout better than expected over the past six months.
However, the report also noted a decline in emergency oil stocks, indicating that high debt levels and fiscal deficits in many countries could restrict governments’ capacity to protect consumers from future price spikes. This situation arises from dwindling emergency oil reserves, rising debt levels, and mounting geopolitical risks.
The IMF emphasized that strategic energy reserves and adjustments to oil flows, which mitigated the impact of the US-Iran conflict on prices, have been critical in maintaining stability. Yet, the organization warned that these measures may not sustain long-term economic resilience as emergency oil stocks continue to fall.
