Iran Escalates Hormuz Tanker Strikes Amid U.S. Election Concerns

Iran has increased attacks on tankers in the Strait of Hormuz and Persian Gulf to restore leverage over the waterway. More than a dozen strikes since September have reduced oil transit volumes and kept crude prices above $100 per barrel.
U.S. President Donald Trump stated he has no plans to strike Iran before the November 3rd midterm elections, emphasizing the administration’s focus on preventing nuclear weapons while engaging Tehran. Tehran, however, treats Hormuz as a strategic red line and broadens its targeting range in the Gulf. Gulf states and the U.S. maintain that free navigation in international waters remains inviolable.
