Ireland’s Renewable Energy Loss Due to Storage Gaps

KOKO Business | People, Ideas, Markets, Growth | Ireland's Renewable Energy Loss Due to Storage Gaps

Wind and solar power generation in Ireland faced significant storage challenges, leading to the loss of renewable electricity during the first nine months of this year.

According to EirGrid, over 13% of the wind and solar electricity available in the Republic of Ireland during that time could not be utilized due to system limitations.

The renewable energy sector emphasized the necessity of expanding large-scale battery storage to address these gaps, reduce reliance on imported fossil fuels, and lower consumer energy costs.

The issue will be discussed at Ireland's first Renewable Energy Expo, which is set to take place at the RDS in Dublin and is organized by Wind Energy Ireland, Solar Ireland, and Energy Storage Ireland.
