Jakarta Governor Acknowledges Greenpeace Protest, Calls for Order

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo acknowledged Greenpeace Indonesia's protest at the welcome monument in central Jakarta on Tuesday, October 20, 2026. Activists unfurled two large banners criticizing climate policy and rising living costs during the event.
Pramono expressed respect for the protest but emphasized the need to maintain public order. He stated, "We respect and appreciate such actions, but they must not disrupt public order," according to a press statement delivered by the governor and Deputy Governor Rano Karno.
The governor also urged that the banners be removed to prevent any disruption to public order in Jakarta. His remarks were made during a press briefing in Jakarta Pusat on Tuesday.
