JAMB Expands Facilities with N1billion Investment

KOKO Business: JAMB Expands Facilities with N1billion Investment

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board said it spent N1 billion during 2017 to expand examination facilities and planned to create 15,000 centres for candidates taking the 2018 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination. Registrar Ishaq Oloyede disclosed the programme during a briefing in Ilorin, describing the investment as part of wider operational changes at the board.

The agency had also introduced the Central Admission Processing System to make admissions more transparent, reduce costs and block leakages. Oloyede said the system was intended to place 90 per cent of admissions on merit, while about two million applicants were expected to register for the 2018 examination.

JAMB reported returning N7.8 billion to the federal government from N12 billion generated through examination forms in 2017. Oloyede said the result did not come from higher examination charges and maintained that fees had instead been reduced. He also said registration and examination procedures were changed to limit malpractice.
