Johnvents’ N80bn Commercial Paper Launch

KOKO Business | People, Ideas, Markets, Growth | Johnvents' N80bn Commercial Paper Launch

Johnvents Industries’ N80 billion commercial-paper offer was structured under its N250 billion issuance programme. Investors were offered 270-day and 364-day notes. The shorter note carried an 18.18% discount rate and a 21% implied yield; the longer note carried an 18.71% discount rate and a 23% implied yield. The two maturities therefore had different stated return terms.

Johnvents sought the funds for short-term working capital, particularly bulk cocoa procurement for the Main Crop season. Its operations also include trading offices in the UAE and Uganda, plus a premium-rice business in Senegal and The Gambia. These details place the financing alongside the company’s agricultural operating needs and regional footprint.

The published timetable contains a date conflict: it lists 7 October 2020 as the subscription opening, but 13 October 2026 as the closing date, followed by allotment on 14 October and settlement on 15 October. The opening year cannot be reconciled with the later dates. No explanation accompanies the 2020 date, leaving the timetable unresolved.
