Dangote Refinery IPO tests whether new investors stay in the market

Memes about becoming “co-owners” of Dangote Petroleum Refinery have turned its initial public offering into an unusual investor-education moment, but the offer also puts the staying power of new retail investors in focus, BusinessDay reports.

The minimum subscription is 10 shares for N5,250. The offer opened on September 14 and is due to close on October 13, with the refinery seeking about N2.15 trillion, according to the report. BusinessDay says the IPO has brought potentially millions of first-time investors into equities.

The question raised by the report is whether those buyers will remain in the market after the offer. Its publicly available excerpt gives no subscriber count or evidence on how many new investors intend to hold or trade their shares, so retention remains unknown.
