Morocco’s Trade Deficit Widens to 352.3 Billion MAD in 2025

Morocco’s trade deficit expanded to MAD 352.3 billion in 2025, according to the Exchange Office’ annual foreign trade report. This figure represents a 15.5% increase from the previous year’s MAD 304.9 billion, with imports rising faster than exports. The deficit grew by MAD 47.4 billion annually, reflecting a widening gap between domestic demand and international trade flows.
Imports reached MAD 822.3 billion in 2025, up 8% from the prior year’s MAD 761.3 billion, while exports increased by 3% to MAD 470 billion. The import coverage rate dropped to 57.2% in 2025, down from 59.9% in 2024, indicating reduced resilience in the country’s trade balance. Additionally, imports accounted for 43.2% of domestic demand, a rise from 41.4% the previous year.
Finished consumer goods purchases rose by 11.8% to MAD 203.5 billion, driven by higher imports of passenger cars, medicines, and pharmaceutical products.
