The National Business Initiative (NBI) has called on the government to collaborate with the private sector to ensure historically disadvantaged South Africans are included in the green economy. Shameela Soobramoney, CEO of the NBI, emphasized the importance of inclusion in skills development for the green economy and highlighted efforts to engage both the government and private sector.

Soobramoney made these remarks following a summit on youth inclusion in the green economy held in Johannesburg. The summit brought together delegates from business, government, civil society, academia, and funders to discuss strategies for integrating youth into the green economy.

The summit focused on an ambitious jobs target for the green project pipeline to 2030, which includes sectors such as new energy vehicles, battery systems, electricity transmission, green hydrogen, and other green energy and energy efficiency technologies.
